Three studios are counting on families not being done with Adventure Bay. Spin Master, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies are teaming up on a fourth PAW Patrol movie, currently titled PAW Patrol 4, with a release planned for 2029, according to Deadline.
Cal Brunker, who directed all three of the pups’ previous movies, returns to direct the new film, and he says the story is already in place. “Watching the way audiences have connected with the PAW movies has been incredible,” Brunker said. “We’ve written a new story that we think audiences are going to love, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.” Co-writer Bob Barlen, who has written alongside Brunker on the series, also returns.
The announcement follows a strong summer for the franchise. PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie opened in August and went on to earn $160.9 million at the worldwide box office, lifting the three films’ combined total to $510 million. The toys and merchandise are an even bigger business: since the television series debuted on Nick Jr. in 2013, the brand has generated $18 billion in retail sales.
Vishnu Athreya, the president of Spin Master Entertainment, called PAW Patrol “a global entertainment phenomenon” and said the company is investing in the franchise so families get more of the pups’ adventures, with plans to grow the pups’ world across movies, series, specials and short-form video. Jennifer Dodge, president of Paramount Animation, said the pups hold “a special place in the hearts of families around the world” and that her studio is thrilled to keep their big-screen journey going. Dodge has history with the franchise: she previously worked at Spin Master, where she helped build out its entertainment division.
There are no story details or voice cast announcements yet, and a 2029 release means a long wait for young fans. Still, for the kids who have grown up with Ryder, Chase, Marshall, Skye and the rest of the crew, the pups are not slowing down.
