Prime Video has made the first episode of Carrie free for everyone to watch. The streamer posted the complete premiere episode, titled “First Period,” to its official YouTube channel on Wednesday morning, where it is available in full with no Prime subscription required.
Carrie is Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King’s first novel. Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, a sheltered teenager who enters public high school after the sudden death of her father and becomes the target of a bullying scandal just as she starts to discover her telekinetic powers. Samantha Sloyan plays her mother, Margaret. Flanagan created the series and serves as showrunner and executive producer, directing four of the eight episodes, and King is also an executive producer.
“First Period,” which runs about 55 minutes, opens Carrie’s story at Ewen High School, where a cruel locker room prank, filmed and shared online, sets the season in motion. It is the same incident that opens King’s novel, now playing out in an era when a humiliating video can follow a teenager everywhere she goes.
The free posting is a taste of the season rather than the whole thing. All eight episodes have been streaming on Prime Video since October 7, and TDN has been covering the series since its premiere, most recently with the story of how Flanagan rewrote the finale around a song called “Shy Girl” after hearing an unreleased demo.
