After nearly three years of uncertainty, Coyote vs. Acme finally has a real trailer for the public to watch. Warner Bros. Discovery infamously shelved the completed live-action and animated hybrid back in 2023 as part of a tax write-off, a decision CEO David Zaslav made alongside the similar fate of Batgirl and one that became one of the most talked-about calls of his early tenure at the company. Public backlash eventually pushed Zaslav to let the filmmakers shop the finished film to other buyers, and Ketchup Entertainment stepped in to acquire the distribution rights in March 2025.
Since then, fans have gotten glimpses without ever getting the full picture. There was a first look at San Diego Comic-Con last year, followed by an industry-only screening of the trailer at CinemaCon earlier this year. Today, Ketchup finally gave the wider public its first real look at the film, dropping the two-minute trailer just ahead of Coyote vs. Acme’s first public screening at this year’s Comic-Con on July 25.
The trailer picks up on Wile E. Coyote’s decades of misfortune chasing the Road Runner, and it turns out his bad luck might not be entirely his own fault. After spotting a TV ad for down-on-his-luck billboard attorney Kevin Avery, played by Will Forte, Coyote decides it’s time to hold Acme accountable for years of faulty products. That sets up a David-versus-Goliath courtroom battle against Acme’s slick corporate counsel Buddy Crane, played by John Cena.
Fans of the classic Looney Tunes shorts will find plenty to love in the footage, from an avalanche of dropped anvils to appearances from Porky Pig, Bugs Bunny, and a scene-stealing Tweety. One of the trailer’s best surprises is Foghorn Leghorn showing up as an operatic Southern gentleman lawyer representing Acme, giving off real My Cousin Vinny and The Client energy.
Alongside Forte and Cena, the film’s human cast includes Lana Condor, Tone Bell, P.J. Byrne, Martha Kelly, and Luis Guzmán. Coyote vs. Acme was directed by Dave Green from a screenplay by Samy Burch, based on a story Burch wrote with James Gunn and Jeremy Slater. Gunn produces alongside Chris DeFaria.
Coyote vs. Acme opens in theaters on August 28.
