Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies dropped the first teaser trailer today for “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie,” the third theatrical installment in the beloved animated franchise, and it arrives with a surprise musical flourish courtesy of the Backstreet Boys. The clip, released March 30, introduces audiences to the film’s prehistoric premise while debuting a brand-new track from the pop group titled “Bottle Up,” setting a playful, high-energy tone for what director Cal Brunker is calling the biggest adventure the franchise has ever produced.

The teaser lays out the film’s central concept in broad, crowd-pleasing strokes. After their ship is caught in a mysterious storm, the PAW Patrol pups crash land on an uncharted tropical island teeming with dinosaurs. There they encounter Rex, a Bernese Mountain Dog who has been stranded on the island for years and has become a self-taught expert in all things dinosaur-related. Rex was previously introduced in the television series during its “Dino Rescue” story arc, but this marks his theatrical debut. The island’s peace does not last long. The PAW Patrol’s perennial archrival, Mayor Humdinger, arrives and begins reckless mining operations in pursuit of the island’s natural resources, inadvertently triggering a massive volcanic eruption. What follows, according to the official synopsis, is a series of high-stakes, dino-sized rescues bigger than anything the team has attempted before.

Brunker, who also serves as co-writer, has directed all three films in the cinematic “PAW Patrol” series, and he has been candid about his ambitions for this entry. “This is the biggest adventure the pups have been on by far,” Brunker said in materials released alongside the first-look images earlier this week. “It’s my favorite PAW Patrol movie yet, definitely an adventure to experience on the largest screen possible.” The production is a Paramount Pictures and Spin Master Entertainment collaboration, with Jennifer Dodge, Laura Clunie, and Toni Stevens returning as producers.

The confirmed voice cast is among the most expansive the franchise has assembled. Mckenna Grace reprises her role as Skye from “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” joined by newcomers Henry Bolan as team leader Ryder, Rain Janjua as Chase, Carter Young as Marshall, and Hayden Chemberlen as Rex. The celebrity roster also includes Jennifer Hudson, Terry Crews, Fortune Feimster, Jameela Jamil, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, and Bill Nye, making it a particularly star-studded affair for a family animated feature.

The road to this teaser has not been entirely smooth. The third film was first announced on September 26, 2023, just days before “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie” opened in theaters. In February 2025, the official title was confirmed as “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie.” That same month, a production challenge emerged when Technicolor Group, parent company of animation studio Mikros Image, announced it would shut down operations due to financial difficulties. Mikros had handled animation for the previous PAW Patrol films, and the shutdown disrupted ongoing work on the new movie. The production ultimately found its footing, and the film’s release date settled at August 14 after a series of scheduling adjustments that at various points had it set for July 24 and July 31.

The franchise has proven to be a remarkably durable box office commodity for Paramount. The first two “PAW Patrol” theatrical films combined to gross approximately $350 million worldwide, a figure that makes the third film one of the studio’s more reliable summer bets. That track record, combined with a prehistoric setting that has obvious appeal for young audiences, a stacked voice cast, and a nostalgia-leaning Backstreet Boys tie-in that will likely resonate with parents as much as it does with children, positions “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” as one of the more commercially assured family releases of the summer. The pups arrive exclusively in theaters on August 14.
