The wait is finally over for fans of the most dysfunctional family in sitcom history. Earlier today, Hulu shocked the world by releasing the first official trailer for the highly anticipated revival, titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. Nearly 20 years after the original series wrapped, the Wilkersons are reuniting for a four-part special event that promises every bit of the chaotic energy we remember.
The new footage gives us our first look at a 40-year-old Malcolm, played by a returning Frankie Muniz, who has spent the last decade doing everything in his power to stay away from his family. Now a father himself to a daughter named Leah (played by Keeley Karsten), Malcolm’s peace is shattered when Hal and Lois, played once again by Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party. The trailer features Malcolm breaking the fourth wall to tell us that his life has been “fantastic” lately, only to have that statement immediately punctuated by a classic family-induced disaster.
Most of the original cast is set to return, including Christopher Kennedy Masterson as Francis and Justin Berfield as Reese. However, fans will notice a change in the lineup; the role of Dewey has been recast with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. The trailer also introduces new characters, including a youngest sibling named Kelly (Vaughan Murrae). Despite the changes, the trailer captures that signature blend of heart and hysteria that made the original show a classic. Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair is set to premiere on Hulu on April 10.
