We have seen John Travolta step back into his dancing shoes a few times recently, but his latest commercial might just be the most festive one yet. If you caught the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, you likely saw the moment that has everyone talking: Travolta isn’t just channeling Danny Zuko; he is channeling Santa Claus as Danny Zuko.
Capital One has released a new holiday spot where Travolta dons the red suit and beard, but instead of the North Pole, he’s in a workshop that looks suspiciously like the auto shop from Grease. In a stroke of holiday genius, he breaks into a full parody of “Greased Lightnin’,” but this time, it’s all about upgrading his sleigh.
The attention to detail is honestly fantastic. Travolta wears a red leather jacket that reads “S-Claus” on the back, and instead of the T-Birds, he is backed up by a crew of dancing elves. He belts out new, holiday-themed lyrics, singing about his sleigh being “frost-o-matic” and “tinsel-matic” while showing off those legendary dance moves that haven’t aged a day.
It is rare for a commercial to actually be this entertaining, but seeing Santa hit the classic arm-swinging choreography while worrying about his cash-back rewards is the holiday mashup we didn’t know we needed. It ends with the “souped-up” sleigh flying off into the night, just like the car in the movie’s finale.
If you need a little holiday cheer that comes with a side of nostalgia, this is definitely it. You can watch the full “Greased Sleigh-Ridin’” spot right here.
