Warner Bros. has unveiled the first look at “The Bride,” Maggie Gyllenhaal’s radical reimagining of the Frankenstein mythos that plants the story in 1930s Chicago and leans into a punk romantic energy. The teaser introduces Jessie Buckley as the newly reanimated Bride and Christian Bale as a lonely Frankenstein who crosses an ocean searching for connection. He turns to groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronius, played by Annette Bening, to resurrect a murdered woman who becomes something more than either creator or companion anticipated.

The footage teases flickers of a turbulent love story fueled by possession, rebellion, and self-discovery. There are jolts of dark humor and a jagged, synth-driven mood as the Bride awakens to a world that wants to shape her, even as she begins to define herself. Gyllenhaal’s take winks at James Whale’s “Bride of Frankenstein” while staking out a bold, contemporary voice, using Great Depression-era Chicago as the backdrop for a combustible relationship that feels dangerous and romantic in equal measure.

Alongside Buckley, Bale, and Bening, the ensemble includes Peter Sarsgaard and Jake Gyllenhaal, with Penélope Cruz also featured among the star lineup. The teaser favors suggestion over plot specifics, but the setup is clear: a deal struck to create a partner becomes a spark for a wider cultural rupture as the Bride and her counterpart push back against anyone trying to own their story.

Gyllenhaal made her directorial debut with “The Lost Daughter,” and here she expands that authorial confidence with a monster movie that looks as interested in desire and autonomy as it is in electricity and stitches. If the trailer is a guide, expect an intimate, big-canvas romance with jagged edges, stylish menace, and a lead duo primed to tear up the screen.

“The Bride” opens in theaters on March 6, 2026. Keep checking Trevor Decker News for updates as new trailers, images, and release details arrive. Watch the official teaser below.
