Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the official trailer for Sarah’s Oil, an inspiring new film based on the extraordinary life of Sarah Rector, a young African American girl who defied the odds to make history in the early 1900s.
Set in Oklahoma’s Indian Territory, Sarah’s Oil tells the story of a girl who dares to believe there’s oil beneath the barren land she’s been allotted. When her instincts prove right, Sarah finds herself the target of opportunists eager to take control. But with the support of her family, trusted friends, and a few bold Texas wildcatters, she holds on to what’s hers—ultimately becoming one of the first African American female millionaires at just eleven years old.
The film stars Zachary Levi, Naya Desir-Johnson in the title role, and Sonequa Martin-Green. It’s directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh and produced by Wonder Project and Kingdom Story Company.
From its striking cinematography to the emotional weight carried in the performances, the trailer sets the tone for what looks to be a powerful and deeply moving story of perseverance, faith, and legacy.
Sarah’s Oil opens in theaters nationwide on November 7.
