Baz Luhrmann is returning to the world of Elvis Presley with EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, which will make its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), taking place September 4–14, 2025.
The film marks a new chapter in the ongoing preservation of Presley’s legacy. During the production of Luhrmann’s 2022 Elvis biopic, a treasure trove of previously unseen material was discovered in the Warner Bros. archives. These included original film negatives, 8mm footage, and rare audio recordings from Elvis: That’s The Way It Is (1970) and Elvis on Tour (1972). Over the past two years, the footage has undergone extensive restoration to enhance both visual and sound quality.
Luhrmann has described EPiC not as a traditional documentary or concert film, but as something entirely unique. According to The Commercial Appeal, the project blends the newly restored footage with audio of Elvis himself narrating his own story. The film is designed to offer deeper insight into Elvis’s inner life and artistry, set against a backdrop of both his iconic music and contemporary tracks.
TIFF’s selection of EPiC signals strong artistic value and industry interest. The festival is known for premiering major works that often go on to define the cultural conversation. While a theatrical release is expected to follow, TIFF audiences will be the first to experience this immersive exploration of the King of Rock and Roll.
From restored concert moments to personal reflections in Elvis’s own voice, EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert is poised to offer fans a powerful and intimate journey through the life and legacy of one of music’s greatest icons.
