Angel Studios has announced plans to produce and distribute a film adaptation of Fablehaven, the acclaimed fantasy book series by Brandon Mull. Scheduled for release in 2026, the project marks the first feature film adaptation of Mull’s popular novels. The collaboration with Haven Films is currently in the early stages of pre-production, with filming expected to begin in late summer 2025.
The Fablehaven series, published by Shadow Mountain, is known for its imaginative storytelling and richly developed magical world. The story follows siblings Kendra and Seth Sorenson, who discover their grandfather’s mansion serves as a sanctuary for mythical creatures. The siblings are thrust into a dangerous quest when their grandfather is kidnapped by goblins, and a witch attempts to unleash a powerful demon named Bahamut.
Jordan Harmon, President of Angel Studios, commented on the partnership, saying, “The Fablehaven books have been a favorite series for myself and all of my kids, and so I was not surprised when the Angel Guild responded so enthusiastically to their torch. We are thrilled to bring to the big screen these incredible stories that promise to delight families and inspire viewers of all ages.”
Director Cameron Sawyer, known for Tim Timmerman: Hope of America, emphasized the creative freedom the partnership allows, stating, “What gets us most excited about this collaboration is that we have the freedom to stay true to the book, which is a rare privilege today.” Christian Busath will serve as producer, with Travis Shreeve as executive producer.
This adaptation will focus on the first book in the five-part series, with plans to adapt the remaining installments in the future. Busath highlighted the team’s commitment to the source material, stating, “Our passion for the books and their iconic characters is at the heart of this collaboration. We’re fans first and foremost.”
With production still in the planning stages, Angel Studios and Haven Films aim to faithfully translate the series’ intricate narrative and vivid world-building to film. The project is set to appeal to fans of the books and audiences who enjoy immersive fantasy adventures.
Updates on the development and production of Fablehaven will follow as the 2026 release approaches.
