Riley Keough, star of Daisy Jones & The Six, recently joined Oprah Winfrey for an intimate conversation featured in the upcoming special, An Oprah Special: The Presleys — Elvis, Lisa Marie, and Riley. During this emotional interview, Keough opened up about her mother, Lisa Marie Presley’s deep grief over the loss of her father, Elvis Presley. Lisa Marie was only nine years old when Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll, passed away in August 1977. The special provides a rare glimpse into the Presley family’s complex emotional journey, sharing personal moments that shaped their lives.

In a poignant part of the interview, Riley Keough described her mother’s difficulty in processing her father’s sudden passing. “Her grief was very — I don’t think she knew how to process it,” Keough admitted. She also shared memories of finding her mother alone, listening to Elvis’s music. “She would listen to his music alone, if she was drunk, and cry,” Keough recalled. It was in these private moments that Lisa Marie allowed herself to connect with emotions she rarely showed to others.

The conversation took place at Graceland Mansion, Elvis’s legendary home in Memphis, Tennessee, and marks Riley Keough’s first in-depth interview since her mother’s unexpected death in 2023 at the age of 54. Alongside memories of Lisa Marie’s struggle with grief, the special also highlights her unfinished memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, which Keough completed after her mother’s passing. The memoir, set to be released on October 8, captures Lisa Marie’s experiences growing up as Elvis Presley’s daughter, her challenging teenage years, her battles with addiction, and her deep devotion to her children.

Riley Keough’s reflections convey her deep understanding of the weight of her family’s legacy. She speaks of her mother not just as Elvis’s daughter, but as a person who faced incredible challenges. “Few people had the opportunity to know who my mom really was, beyond being Elvis’s daughter,” Keough said in a statement about the memoir. “I was lucky to have had that opportunity, and working on her autobiography for publication has been a privilege, though a bittersweet one.”

Keough hopes that by sharing her mother’s memoir, readers will see a vulnerable and honest side of Lisa Marie that was often hidden behind her public image. “I’m so excited to share my mom now, at her most vulnerable and most honest, and in doing so, I hope that readers come to love my mom as much as I did,” she expressed.

The interview will also feature never-before-seen family photos, home videos, and personal audio recordings of Lisa Marie recalling memories of her father. This intimate portrayal of the Presley family offers a fresh perspective on the enduring impact of Elvis Presley’s legacy, seen through the eyes of his daughter and granddaughter.

Catch the full special on CBS on October 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, or stream it on Paramount+, to witness Riley Keough’s touching tribute to her mother and explore the Presley family’s journey of love, loss, and resilience.
