Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the closure of the Boomerang streaming service, effective September 30. As part of a broader effort to streamline its streaming platforms, content from Boomerang will be moved to the Max streaming service. While the Boomerang TV channel will continue to air its lineup of classic, family-friendly cartoons, there are concerns about the availability of some niche Hanna-Barbera shows on Max.
Subscribers to Boomerang will automatically have their subscriptions transferred to Max ad-free, ensuring uninterrupted access to much of the animated content they’ve enjoyed. However, Warner Bros. Discovery is also leveraging its partnership with the recently launched Me TV Toons network to distribute a significant portion of Boomerang’s content.
Me TV Toons, which recently launched over-the-air (OTA), is still working to secure broader cable coverage. Despite efforts by Weigel Broadcasting to make the network available to cable providers, the channel has yet to gain significant traction in that market. This has left some viewers unaware that many classic shows they love from Boomerang will also be available on Me TV Toons.
This transition reflects Warner Bros. Discovery’s ongoing strategy to consolidate its content under fewer, more robust platforms while also supporting emerging networks like Me TV Toons. For fans of classic cartoons, the move offers multiple avenues to continue enjoying these beloved shows, though the extent of their availability may vary depending on the platform.
