In a major announcement at WWE’s Money in the Bank event held at ScotiaBank Arena in Toronto, John Cena, a sixteen-time world champion, revealed that he will retire from in-ring competition in 2025. Cena’s surprise appearance on Saturday night marked a significant moment for WWE fans worldwide.

Cena, known for his “Never give up” mantra, carried a towel with a new message: “The last time is now,” referencing his entrance theme. He also sported a shirt with the slogans “The Last Time Is Now Tour” and “John Cena Farewell.”

He outlined his farewell tour, confirming participation in key events next year, including the premiere episode of Monday Night Raw on Netflix on January 6, the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41. Cena plans to work “30 to 40 dates” through December 2025, marking these appearances as his final matches.

Debuting in WWE in 2002, Cena quickly became a fan favorite with his “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona. His career highlights include memorable WrestleMania matches, especially against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in 2011 and 2012. Cena won his first world championship at WrestleMania XXI in 2005.

Cena has been balancing his wrestling career with acting since 2018, taking on a part-time role. His last televised match was on April 8, where he joined forces with The Awesome Truth against The Judgement Day. At WrestleMania XL, while he did not compete, Cena was instrumental in helping Cody Rhodes defeat Roman Reigns for the undisputed WWE championship.

Apart from his wrestling accolades, Cena is celebrated for his charitable efforts, particularly with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, having granted nearly 700 wishes.

Cena emphasized that his retirement tour would be his final run, with no plans to wrestle after 2025. However, he assured fans that his association with WWE would continue in other capacities, maintaining his long-standing relationship with the organization.

As John Cena transitions to focusing on his Hollywood career, his legacy in WWE remains unparalleled, with significant contributions to both the sport and the community.
