Attention, all Beetlejuice fans! The moment we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. Warner Bros, Pictures has just released the first official teaser for ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 supernatural comedy classic – and it’s everything we could have hoped for and more, including our first look at Jenna Ortega as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid.
The teaser, which you can watch below, gives us a tantalizing glimpse of what’s in store for the ghost with the most and his mortal cohorts. We see the return of Michael Keaton as the stripey-suited bio-exorcist, looking just as mischievous and unhinged as ever. Winona Ryder also reprises her role as Lydia Deetz, now all grown up but still as goth-chic as we remember her.
But the real highlight is the introduction of Jenna Ortega as Astrid, Lydia’s daughter. Ortega, fresh off her breakout role in Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’, seems right at home in the eerie and eccentric world of Beetlejuice, and we can’t wait to see how her character fits into the story.
From the looks of it, director Tim Burton is bringing his signature visual style and spooky sensibilities to the sequel, promising a wild and wacky ride back into the afterlife. The teaser is packed with all the haunting humor, otherworldly oddities, and eye-popping visuals that made the original film a cult classic.
According to Burton, ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ will focus on the emotional core of three generations of Deetz women – a story that finally convinced him and Keaton to return to the world of Beetlejuice after years of considering potential sequel ideas. With a premise like that, and a cast this talented, we can’t wait to see what supernatural shenanigans await us in the full film.
‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ is set to materialize in theaters on September 6 and we’ll be keeping you updated with all the details as the release date creeps closer. In the meantime, check out the teaser below.
