Sony Pictures has announced that the release date for the highly anticipated new “Ghostbusters” film, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire”, has been moved up one week from March 29th to March 22nd, 2024. The studio made the announcement on Tuesday.
“Frozen Empire” is the latest film in the beloved “Ghostbusters” franchise, which began with the 1984 classic comedy directed by Ivan Reitman. Mckenna Grace will reprise her role as Phoebe Spengler, the descendant of an original Ghostbuster. The new movie will bring back many fan favorite elements, including the iconic New York City firehouse headquarters of the Ghostbusters team.
The plot involves Phoebe Spengler returning to the firehouse and teaming up with the remaining original Ghostbusters crew. Together, they operate a secret ghost research lab with advanced technology for busting ghosts. However, the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil supernatural force that threatens New York with a second Ice Age.
“Frozen Empire” stars a mix of new and returning actors, including Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Kumail Nanjiani, and original stars Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver. The film is directed by Gil Kenan and written by Kenan along with Jason Reitman, son of the original director Ivan Reitman.
The movie will be screened in IMAX and other premium large format theaters when it hits theaters March 22nd, 2024, much to the delight of “Ghostbusters” fans everywhere eager to see the return of one of cinema’s most iconic franchises. With both new blood and familiar faces, “Frozen Empire” looks primed to capture the magic that made the original “Ghostbusters” a timeless classic while opening up new territory for the beloved characters to explore.
