Brace yourself for a trip back to the 31st century as Hulu breathes new life into the fan-favorite animated series, Futurama. The highly anticipated comeback is slated for a Monday, July 24 premiere, marking the onset of the series’ eleventh season. New episodes will roll out weekly throughout the season’s 10-episode arc.

Hulu sparked excitement among fans in February 2022 when they revealed an order for 20 new episodes of the cult-hit animated comedy. Hulu promises that these fresh episodes will captivate a broad spectrum of viewers. Whether you’re a newcomer to the series or a long-standing fan, there will be something for everyone. Revelations to long-held mysteries, including twists in Fry and Leela’s epic love story, the enigmatic contents of Nibbler’s litter box, Robot Santa’s undisclosed history, and Kif and Amy’s tadpoles’ whereabouts will be unveiled. The series will also address contemporary issues such as the evolving nature of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and the streaming TV landscape.

Originating in 1999, Futurama rapidly gained a loyal audience and critical acclaim, bagging two primetime Emmys for Outstanding Animated Program along the way. The story unfolds around Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy from New York City who finds himself frozen in 1999 and thawed out in the year 3000. He forms an unlikely friendship with a hard-drinking robot, Bender, and a cyclops named Leela, whom he falls in love with. These three become an integral part of the Planet Express Delivery Company, helmed by Fry’s distant relative, Professor Hubert Farnsworth. Along with Hermes Conrad, Amy Wong, and extraterrestrial lobster Dr. John Zoidberg, they embark on exhilarating adventures spanning the cosmos.

After its initial tenure on Fox, Futurama made a successful transition to DVD from 2007-2009. This led to its resurrection on Comedy Central from 2010-2013. Following a ten-year pause, Hulu stepped in with a commitment for 20 more episodes.

The ensemble cast includes Billy West, John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman. The brainchild of Matt Groening, Futurama was further developed by Groening and David X. Cohen. Groening, Cohen, Ken Keeler, and Claudia Katz serve as executive producers. The series is a product of 20th Television Animation, a subsidiary of Disney Television Studios, with Rough Draft Studios providing the animation.

Hulu currently hosts all previous seasons of Futurama, reinforcing its growing repertoire of original and procured adult animated content.
