DAVID: First Trailer Released for Animated Musical Starring Phil Wickham
2 mins readAngel Studios has unveiled the first look at its next major theatrical release, the animated musical epic DAVID. The studio released the film’s first teaser trailer and official teaser artwork today, previewing the family-oriented adventure set to premiere this holiday season.
The film, a co-production with Sunrise Animation Studios, is scheduled for a wide theatrical release on December 19.
The new teaser provides a glimpse into the animation and musical style of the film, which adapts the classic biblical story. Brandon Purdie, Head of Theatrical at Angel Studios, described the project as “the movie for families this Christmas,” adding that the story “captures the heart of the boy who faced a giant.”
The project is reportedly a significant one for the studio. According to the announcement, DAVID is the highest-rated film in the history of the “Angel Guild,” the studio’s 1.5 million-member audience-scoring system, earning a 98 out of 100. The film has also been a long-term passion project for its creators. Director Brent Dawes of Sunrise Animation Studios noted the team has been “working on for over a decade,” while creator and co-director Phil Cunningham stated he has “dreamed and fought” to bring the story to the screen for “over three decades.”
The voice cast is led by multi-platinum and GRAMMY-nominated music artist Phil Wickham, who will voice the adult David. Actor and singer Brandon Engman is set to voice David as a youth.
DAVID will be distributed by Angel and released exclusively in theaters on December 19.
