After nearly two decades off the air, Reading Rainbow is making its return in a brand-new format. The beloved literacy program, which first premiered in 1983 and inspired generations of young readers, is set to debut a short-form reboot beginning Saturday, October 4.

The new series will stream on KidZuko, Sony’s YouTube channel aimed at children and families. Episodes will premiere weekly every Saturday morning at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET, running through October 25.

Leading the relaunch is Mychal Threets, a librarian and social media personality known for his enthusiastic promotion of reading and community engagement. Threets takes on the role once famously held by LeVar Burton, who hosted the original series from 1983 until 2006.

The updated Reading Rainbow will feature celebrity guest stars, interactive storytelling, and a digital-first presentation designed for today’s audience. Production is being handled by Buffalo Toronto Public Media, the same organization behind the original run.

Fans will be able to watch the new Reading Rainbow directly on YouTube through the KidZuko channel as well as on the official Reading Rainbow website.
