Jenna Ortega, known for her role as Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s Netflix series “Wednesday,” has quickly become one of Hollywood’s brightest stars. As her fame skyrocketed, Ortega found a surprising source of guidance and comfort in her “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” co-star, Winona Ryder.
Ortega recently opened up to Harper’s Bazaar about her bond with Ryder, explaining how much the seasoned actress has meant to her during this time. “She definitely helped me feel less alone,” Ortega shared. “It’s a very isolating experience and a scary one. Being able to speak to somebody who had witnessed that firsthand, maybe even more, was a great source of comfort for me, and I can’t thank her enough for that.”
This isn’t the first time Ortega has praised Ryder. In a previous interview with E! News, she described her co-star as “the loveliest, sweetest — just one of my favorite people I think I’ve ever met. I love her a lot and I felt really grateful to get to know her and work with her—she is just an angel on this planet.”
Their connection was solidified on the set of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” where Ryder reprises her role as Lydia Deetz. The film follows Lydia and her family as they return to their home in Winter River, Connecticut, after a significant loss. Ortega plays Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, who accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife, unleashing supernatural chaos.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega revealed some intriguing details about her character. “She’s weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume, I would say,” Ortega noted. She also highlighted the unique mother-daughter dynamic between Lydia and Astrid. “The relationship between Lydia and Astrid, my character, is very important. And it’s also really strange because it’s a lot of catching up and putting the pieces together of what’s gone on in Lydia’s life since [the first film], which is nice, I think, for anybody who loves the character and is excited to see her again.”
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” featuring Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Arthur Conti, and Willem Dafoe, is set to hit theaters on September 6. Fans eagerly await the film, especially the dynamic between Ortega and Ryder.
