Sony Pictures has announced three new additions to the cast of its upcoming movie SNL 1975 (working title), which will explore the behind-the-scenes events of the opening episode of the iconic sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. The film, directed by Jason Reitman and based on a script co-written by Reitman and Gil Kenan, will feature Andrew Barth Feldman, Kaia Gerber, and Finn Wolfhard in key roles.
Gerber, known for her roles in Bottoms and the upcoming series Palm Royale, will portray Jacqueline Carlin. Wolfhard, best recognized for his performances in the Netflix series Stranger Things and the horror film It, will play an NBC page. Barth Feldman, who recently co-starred with Jennifer Lawrence in Sony’s No Hard Feelings and gained acclaim for his lead role in the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, will take on the role of Neil Levy.
The movie will depict the chaotic and magical moments leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live on October 11, 1975, when a determined group of young comedians and writers revolutionized television. The screenplay is based on extensive interviews conducted by Reitman and Kenan with living cast members, writers, and crew from the original episode.
SNL 1975 is being produced by Reitman, Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills, and Peter Rice. The film marks a reunion for Barth Feldman and Sony, while Wolfhard is set to reprise his role in another Sony project, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Wolfhard recently made his feature film directorial debut with Hell of a Summer, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023.
As the project moves forward, fans of the long-running sketch comedy series and the talented cast members can look forward to a fascinating glimpse into the early days of Saturday Night Live and the individuals who helped shape its enduring legacy.
