Bella Ramsey, who stars as Ellie in HBO’s adaptation of the video game The Last of Us, has revealed that filming the most ambitious episode to date left her with a real black eye. IGN reports that the episode, which takes place in Kansas City, features Joel and Ellie on the run and includes several intense action scenes that caused Ramsey to suffer multiple bruises and a black eye.
The episode’s shoots spanned three weeks, with most of them taking place at night. Despite being chronically exhausted through most of the filming, Ramsey said the experience was “incredibly stressful in a way that felt amazing,” and they are proud of the performance.
The Last of Us has been well-received by critics and viewers alike, with Ramsey’s performance receiving particular praise. The show’s fifth episode is at the midpoint of the first season, which covers the events of the original game. The Last of Us Episode 6 airs on February 19.
