Glee Reboot Officially Ordered at Disney+ and Hulu

Ryan Murphy's musical comedy is officially returning, and Lea Michele is already in talks to step back into Rachel Berry's shoes.

McKinley High is about to get loud again. The Glee reboot comes from the team that created the original series, with co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan writing alongside Ryan Murphy and 20th Television producing.

Hours after the series order landed, the first casting news followed. Lea Michele is in talks to reprise her role as Rachel Berry, the relentlessly ambitious singer at the center of the original series. Deadline confirmed the talks through its own sources. If she signs on, Michele would be the first member of the original cast to join the reboot. Representatives for Disney and for Michele declined to comment.

Deadline also reports that Matthew Morrison, who played glee club director Will Schuester, is not in talks to appear just yet, though he hopes to be involved. Murphy said last month that he has been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members about the reboot.

Heather Morris, who played Brittany S. Pierce, has already posted that her character Brittany is “alive and well … and back for more.” The post reads as enthusiasm rather than an announced return, but it is an early sign of how warmly the original cast is greeting the news. Chord Overstreet struck the same note on X, posting “reunited and it feels so good!”

Michele comes to the talks fresh off Broadway, having recently wrapped her starring role as Florence Vassy in the revival of Chess and a guest spot on CBS’s Elsbeth. No premiere date or episode count has been announced for the reboot. For now, the original series is streaming on Hulu, all six seasons of the musical comedy that won six Emmy Awards and became a pop culture phenomenon.
