If you’ve been reading this site for a while, you already know Peyton Elizabeth Lee. Long before she was leading a Laika epic, she was Andi Mack, and we followed her journey every step of the way. Now she’s heading into the Impassable Wilderness.
Laika, the studio behind “Coraline” and “Kubo and the Two Strings,” has released the final trailer for “Wildwood,” its most ambitious stop-motion film yet, and it is stunning.
Lee voices Prue McKeel, a headstrong teenager whose baby brother is abducted by a murder of crows. Her desperate rescue mission takes her into an enchanted forest hidden just beyond Portland, Oregon, where she navigates a world of talking animals, bandits, and powerful figures driven by grief and ambition. She’s joined by her classmate Curtis Mehlberg, voiced by Jacob Tremblay.
The voice cast is stacked: Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Richard E. Grant, Awkwafina, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Charlie Day, Blythe Danner, Maya Erskine, Jake Johnson, and more.
“Wildwood” is based on the 2011 novel by Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, illustrated by Carson Ellis. It’s directed by Travis Knight (“Kubo and the Two Strings,” “Bumblebee”) and written by Chris Butler (“ParaNorman”).
The film opens in theaters October 23, and tickets are on sale now.
