Jamie Lee Curtis brought raw emotion to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as she opened up about the devastating wildfires tearing through Los Angeles, including her Pacific Palisades neighborhood. Fighting back tears, she shared the heartbreak of seeing her community and possibly her own home in danger. “I’m literally just about to cry,” Curtis said after receiving a warm welcome from the audience. “As you know, where I live is on fire right now. Literally the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning. Everything – the market I shop in, the schools my kids go to, and many, many, many, many friends now have lost their homes.”
Curtis explained that she had flown to New York for the show, but during the flight, texts about the rapidly spreading fires started pouring in. She described the chaos and heartbreak, saying, “It’s [f***ing] gnarly, you guys. It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California. This is literally where I live.” Despite her obligations in New York, Curtis made it clear she planned to return to Los Angeles the following morning to be with her family and offer help to friends who had already lost their homes.
During her appearance, Curtis used the opportunity to urge viewers to take action. As an ambassador for the American Red Cross, she emphasized the importance of community and preparedness. “Do anything you can,” she urged. “Give blood, donate, whatever you can do—animal shelters, local resources, anything.” She also shared practical advice for those at risk of evacuation, encouraging people to prepare emergency kits with essentials like prescription glasses, medicines, baby formula, and pet supplies.
Earlier in the day, Curtis and her husband, actor-director Christopher Guest, announced a $1 million pledge from their Family Foundation to aid in recovery efforts. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Curtis expressed gratitude for the firefighters and first responders battling the fires, saying, “My husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there. I’m in communication with Governor Newsom, Mayor Bass, and Senator Schiff as to where those funds need to be directed for the most impact.”
Jamie Lee Curtis’ candid emotions and generous contribution highlight her dedication to her community. Her heartfelt plea for action and unwavering support for those affected by the fires serve as an inspiring reminder of the importance of coming together during times of crisis.
