Mckenna Grace, the talented young actress known for her impressive performances in “Ghostbusters,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and “Gifted,” is set to take on a new challenge in the upcoming psychological thriller “Straight Lies.” In addition to starring in the lead role, Grace will also serve as an executive producer for the film, which is inspired by the true experiences of writer Ren Trella.
“Straight Lies” transports viewers back to the height of the war on drugs in 1990, following the story of a teenage girl who finds herself wrongfully accused of drug use and forcibly confined in a government-backed, cult-like rehabilitation facility. As she fights for her freedom, her CIA agent father becomes entangled in political influence, unaware of the danger his daughter faces.
Moved by Trella’s personal story, Grace recognizes the importance of bringing this tale to the big screen. “After speaking with our amazing writer Ren and hearing her true story of what she endured and based the script, I knew this was going to be a heartbreaking, but necessary project to make,” Grace shared.
Directing this haunting story is Alex Kalymnios, known for her work on series such as “The Recruit,” “Three Families,” and “Titans.” Kalymnios expressed her excitement to direct this shocking and emotional nightmare, with Grace leading the way.
Mandalay Pictures, the production company behind “Air,” will produce the film alongside Valor Media Group. David Zelon, who recently produced “Big George Foreman,” will serve as producer for Mandalay. The project has secured financing from Unity Entertainment and Princess Gates Entertainment.
Grace, who earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for her role in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” continues to showcase her versatility as an actress. Audiences can catch her next in Sony’s “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” set to release on March 22.
As “Straight Lies” gears up for production this summer in North Carolina, it promises to be a gripping exploration of a shocking true story, with Mckenna Grace bringing her talent and passion to the project both as an actress and executive producer.
