Apple TV+ made an announcement confirming plans to premiere an original documentary titled “The Bloody Hundredth.” The project will serve as a historical companion piece to “Masters of the Air,” the platform’s hit WWII drama series currently nearing its finale episode.
Directed by Mark Herzog and produced by Amblin Entertainment, “The Bloody Hundredth” will focus on the real-life exploits of the American 100th Bomb Group during the war. Narrated by actor Tom Hanks and featuring firsthand interviews with surviving veterans, the documentary will trace the journeys of soldiers like John Egan, Harry Crosby and Alexander Jefferson – from Pearl Harbor through VE Day.
“The Bloody Hundredth” is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Clocking in at one hour in length, the film aims to provide added historical context around the men of the legendary 100th Bomb Group, incorporating archival footage and commentary to chronicle what these young aviators accomplished and endured in defense of country and cause.
Strategically scheduled alongside the “Masters of the Air” finale, “The Bloody Hundredth” will profile the real figures who inspired the series’ fictional characters. For fans invested in the show’s storyline, it promises to be an illuminating accompanying watch.
