HBO’s smash hit post-apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us” is gearing up for its highly anticipated second season. The show, based on the popular video game franchise, has cast Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, one of the most prominent new characters being introduced next season.
Fans of “The Last of Us Part II” video game will already be familiar with Abby, who serves as one of the game’s two main playable characters. Dever’s Abby is described as a tough, skilled soldier who has very black-and-white views of the dangerous world she inhabits. However, the pursuit of vengeance for lost loved ones challenges Abby’s rigid perspectives. Dever has proven herself more than capable of capturing the grit, determination, and complexity needed to bring Abby to life.
The casting of Dever marks the first of several new additions joining returning series stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in Season 2. Production is set to kick off in Vancouver in February under the direction of showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Given the phenomenal success of the first season, which took home eight Creative Arts Emmys, expectations are sky-high for the next chapter following hardened survivor Joel and young Ellie on their harrowing cross-country trek across a post-pandemic America.
Dever has been on an upward career trajectory thanks to standout performances in Booksmart, Unbelievable, and her Emmy-nominated role in Dopesick. Now with the high-profile part of Abby, she seems poised to break out as the next big star. Fans eagerly await her debut when “The Last of Us” returns to HBO.
