Disney and Pixar have announced the release of a teaser trailer for “Inside Out 2,” which introduces a new character named Anxiety, voiced by actress Maya Hawke. The sequel to the critically acclaimed and commercially successful original film, “Inside Out,” will continue to explore the emotional spectrum within the mind of its protagonist, now a teenager named Riley.
The trailer showcases Anxiety as a new addition to the ensemble of emotions within Riley’s mind, with Maya Hawke bringing the character to life. Anxiety is depicted carrying multiple bags, a visual metaphor for the emotional baggage that the feeling can entail.
Alongside Hawke, the film features returning cast members Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear, and Liza Lapira as Disgust. The trailer hints at a narrative that will address the complexities of growing up, as Riley’s emotions react to the addition of Anxiety to their group.
The original “Inside Out” film was a major success for Pixar, earning $857.6 million globally and receiving critical acclaim for its innovative storytelling and emotional depth. “Inside Out 2” is directed by Kelsey Mann, produced by Mark Nielsen, and is slated for a theatrical release in the summer of 2024. The film will continue to delve into the emotional dynamics of its central character, Riley, as she navigates the challenges of adolescence.
