Actor and musician Dennis Quaid, known for films like The Parent Trap, recently released a new gospel album titled ‘Fallen: A Gospel Record for Sinners’. The album features both classic hymns like “Amazing Grace” and “I’ll Fly Away”, as well as original songs that Quaid wrote himself reflecting on his spiritual journey.
Quaid grew up Baptist and played music from a young age, but became disillusioned with faith as a teenager. Later in life he struggled with cocaine addiction, before getting clean in 1990 and returning to his Christian roots. Reading the Bible, especially the words of Jesus, had a profound impact on Quaid.
The album’s title track “Fallen” sets the tone, telling the story of the prodigal son which Quaid says connects to his experience. Other originals like “Please Don’t Give Up on Me” touch on his struggles and shortcomings.
Quaid hopes the record will inspire others through sharing his story. He co-produced the album in Nashville along with Ben Isaacs, David Ferguson, and Chris Lindsey. It features gospel singers like The Isaacs providing background vocals.
At 69 years old, Quaid continues to act while making music a priority. He recently finished filming a biopic in which he portrays President Ronald Reagan. Quaid has said he feels fortunate to still have the energy and opportunities to pursue both passions at this stage in his life.
