Academy Award-winning screenwriter and director, Sarah Polley, is reportedly in discussions to helm the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s classic animated film, “Bambi,” according to sources close to the project.

The live-action version of “Bambi,” first announced in early 2020, is currently in its early stages of development. Despite its nascent status, the project has already attracted a formidable team of creatives. The film is set to be a musical, featuring music from country singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves. The most recent draft of the script has been penned by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster.

The new “Bambi” is expected to utilize the same technology that brought to life the live-action versions of “The Jungle Book” and “The Lion King.” This innovative approach to animation and live-action integration has been a hallmark of Disney’s recent remakes, offering audiences a fresh perspective on beloved classics.

The news of Polley’s potential involvement in the “Bambi” remake is the latest update in a series of live-action adaptations from Disney. “The Little Mermaid” recently made its theatrical debut, and a live-action “Snow White” is slated for release in Spring 2024.

Other projects in the pipeline include a live-action “Lilo & Stitch,” which is nearing the start of filming, and “Moana,” which is also in early development and has recently been given a release date.

Disney’s live-action remakes have been met with varying degrees of success, with audience scores determining the ranking of favorites. It remains to be seen where “Bambi” will fall in this lineup, but with Polley potentially at the helm and a strong creative team behind it, expectations are high.
