In a move that’s sure to excite fans of home renovation and transformation shows, ABC is delving into its past to reboot the popular series ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’. The original show, which ran for nine successful seasons beginning in 2004, is being reimagined with a fresh perspective and new hosts.
The revamped version of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ will be hosted by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, founders of The Home Edit. The duo is no stranger to the world of television, having previously hosted the Hello Sunshine-produced ‘Get Organized With the Home Edit’ for two seasons on Netflix.
The Home Edit, a home organization company, was acquired by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine in 2022. Witherspoon’s company is among the producers of the new ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’, along with original producers Endemol Shine North America.
This will be the second reboot of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’. The first reboot aired for a single season on HGTV in 2020, hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
As with the original series, the reboot will continue to provide families in need with major home renovations or rebuilds. However, Shearer and Teplin will bring their unique expertise to the table, working with families to declutter and organize their belongings. They will help families decide what to keep and what to part with, setting up their new homes with smart, efficient systems.
The production team for the reboot includes Shyam Balsé (Masterchef) as showrunner and executive producer, along with Endemol Shine’s Sharon Levy, DJ Nurre, and Michael Heyerman, and Hello Sunshine’s Witherspoon, Sara Rea, and Cassie Lambert Scalettar.
