The View Co-Hosts Pitch Themselves as Nuns in ‘Sister Act 3’ Produced by Tyler Perry

The View cohosts are looking to join the habit and take part in the highly anticipated Sister Act 3, produced by Tyler Perry. During a recent episode of the talk show, Whoopi Goldberg and her colleagues discussed their potential involvement in the long-awaited sequel to the hit comedies Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.

Goldberg, who starred as the irreverent lounge singer turned reluctant nun Deloris Van Cartier in the first two films, has been lobbying for numerous stars to join the project. On The View, she asked guest Jimmy Fallon if he was still planning to appear in the movie, to which he confirmed that he would make a cameo.

But it was Joy Behar who sparked the cohosts’ interest in the project, suggesting that they could also play nuns in the film. “We could be nuns, also,” she said, with her colleagues Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin nodding in agreement. “I’ve been pitching this,” Griffin added, and Goldberg said, “Yeah, we could!”

Disney first announced Sister Act 3 was in development for its subscription streaming service Disney+ in 2020. Goldberg has been trying to rally the original cast, including Jenifer Lewis, Maggie Smith, and Kathy Najimy, to return for the third film, as well as dream-casting new stars like Lizzo, Keke Palmer, and Nicki Minaj.

However, as Goldberg revealed on The View, the project was not an easy sell. “They were sort of lukewarm for the longest time, they said nobody wanted to see it, and then Tyler went in and said, ‘I want to see it,'” she said. Perry, who is producing the movie, confirmed on the show in September 2022 that they had a good script and were off to a great start, but the Hollywood system was moving slower than he’d like.

Fans of the Sister Act franchise have been eagerly awaiting news about the upcoming sequel, which is expected to continue the story of Deloris and her fellow singing nuns. While it remains to be seen whether the ladies of The View will make it onto the big screen in Sister Act 3, their enthusiasm for the project is sure to delight fans. In the meantime, viewers can catch The View weekdays at 11 a.m. on ABC.
