The process of bringing the dance sequences of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical to life on screen for the Netflix film adaptation was no small feat. It required months of hard work and dedication from the young cast, as well as careful planning and preparation from the creative team.
According to the behind-the-scenes video released by Netflix at the top of this post, the rehearsals for the dance sequences consisted of 9 weeks of intensive work. The young performers spent hours upon hours practicing and perfecting their routines, working with the choreographer to ensure that everything was just right. It’s a grueling and demanding process, but the cast was up to the task, bringing a level of talent and dedication to their work that is truly impressive.
In addition to the rehearsals, the creative team also built pieces of the set specifically for the dance sequences. This allowed the young performers to get a feel for the set and the transitions between different parts of the stage, without having to worry about the entire set being built around them. This made the transition to the actual set much easier, as the performers were already familiar with the layout and the flow of the routines.
