Alisha Weir Stars in the Much-Anticipated Film Adaptation of “Matilda the Musical” – Watch the Trailer Now

NOTE: This article is 12 months old and may not include the most recent information.

Published in 1988, Matilda by Roald Dahl has spawned numerous adaptations, including a film starring Mara Wilson in 1996 and a musical that won multiple Tony and Olivier Awards in 2010.

Now you can watch the complete trailer for the upcoming Netflix release. Directed by Olivier Award winner Matthew Warchus, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical appears to be as enchanted as the book it’s based on.

Matilda Wormwood is a smart, creative, and curious young girl who is played by Alisha Weir. Her parents, played by Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough, are the worst people in the world.

Matilda prefers to escape into the world of literature, while her parents waste their time with mindless television and questionable ways to make money. Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch), Matilda’s inspiring teacher, who fosters the little girl’s creative spirit, is the first adult with whom Matilda feels a connection.

At first, Matilda is thrilled at the prospect of attending the elite Crunchem Hall. However, she quickly learns that the school is ruled by the ruthless headmistress Miss Trunchbull (Emma Thompson), who has no qualms about tossing a little student by her pigtails over the playground fence.

Matilda, undeterred by the bullying of the headmistress Trunchbull, uses her own special ability to stand up for what’s right and give Trunchbull a lesson she won’t soon forget.

Matilda the Musical, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a script by Dennis Kelly, premiered at the London Film Festival and received overwhelmingly positive reviews. On December 25th, American audiences will have their first chance to watch the film.
