Disney Branded Television has revealed that “Descendants 5” is in the works, promising to broaden its hit franchise with a fresh cast of “Alice in Wonderland” characters. Leading the newcomers is Liamani Segura, the 16-year-old singer and actress, who will portray Pink, the sister of Princess Red. As this blog has previously chronicled her rising music career and acting achievements, Segura’s latest casting stands as a significant step forward in her multifaceted journey through entertainment.
The upcoming film follows the events of 2024’s “Descendants: The Rise of Red,” relocating its narrative to present-day Wonderland. Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker reprise their roles as Princess Red and Princess Chloe, daughters of the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella, respectively. Segura joins an ensemble that includes Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, and Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook, with Leonardo Nam returning as Maddox Hatter. Further casting announcements are expected. Kimmy Gatewood, known for “The Babysitter’s Club,” directs, working from a script by Tamara Chestna, Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer. Emmy winner Emilio Dosal, of “Wicked” fame, will choreograph the film’s musical sequences. While an official title remains undisclosed, production is set to start soon, targeting a release on Disney Channel and Disney+.
Segura’s role as Pink adds to her expanding profile, a trajectory this blog has tracked through her music and screen work. Her October 2024 debut single “Sunkissed” and subsequent Def Jam signing have solidified her as a musical force, while her performance as Emmy in “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” cemented her Disney credentials. In “Descendants 5,” Segura enters a franchise renowned for its vibrant musical numbers, a platform that could spotlight her vocal and performance talents. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, emphasized the series’ lasting draw: “The love for ‘Descendants’ runs deep, and the incredible response to ‘The Rise of Red’ last year proved just how much fans are invested in these characters and their stories.”
Though specifics about Pink’s character are scarce, her familial tie to Red hints at a central role in the Wonderland storyline. Executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh return, joined by Gatewood as co-producer, setting high expectations for the project. Segura’s casting brings an element of anticipation, especially for those who’ve followed her ascent. As “Descendants 5” takes shape, her dual career gains further traction, showcasing a rare versatility for her age. Updates will follow as production advances, offering a closer look at how Segura might redefine Pink within the storied “Descendants” universe.
