Last night, NBC premiered Dolly Parton’s new TV special, “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas,” and it was everything we hoped it would be. The film follows fictionalized versions of Dolly Parton’s producers and business associates as they work to create a Christmas special for NBC. In the course of the two-hour film, audiences see the breakdown of the set and the ultimate breakdown of producer Sam Haskell (played by Tom Everett Scott in a standout performance).
But the real star of the show is, of course, Dolly Parton herself. She is visited by three wise mountain men (played by Billy Ray Cyrus, Willie Nelson, and Zach Williams) who help her remember her roots, her faith, and the true meaning of Christmas. Dolly is joined by her goddaughter Miley Cyrus for a musical duet, and ultimately takes control of the special and delivers a spectacular finale.
In typical Dolly Parton style, she shines throughout the film with her signature charm, wit, and talent. The special is a perfect blend of heartwarming and humorous, and it’s sure to become a holiday classic. If you’re a Dolly Parton fan, or just looking for some holiday cheer, be sure to check out “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” on the Peacock app. You won’t be disappointed!
