Netflix released its first-ever faith-based musical on March 26 “A Week Away” starring Bailee Madison and Kevin Quinn. The production salutes songs from various contemporary Christian music artists including Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman. Two prominent musical numbers are in fact songs from Champman. Both songs are considered classics in the CCM genre. The first song ‘The Great Adventure’ serves as the film’s first major music number as everyone heads off to a week at a Christian summer camp. Steven Curtis Chapman’s song ”The Great Adventure’ was originally released in 1992.
The second song of Chapman’s to be featured in the Netflix musical is “Dive” first released in 1999 serves as yet another upbeat moment in the film with lyrics focusing on trusting in God’s plan and going all in.
Both cast recordings of the songs as heard in “A Week Away” can be heard below with Bailee Madison and Kevin Quinn along with the rest of the cast delivering outstanding covers of the iconic songs.
Other songs include Michael W. Smith’s “Place in This World” (1990), and Audio Adrenaline’s “Big House” (1993), all reimagined and revamped to engage today’s listeners. The soundtrack also features a mashup of Rich Mullins’ “Awesome God” (1988) and For KING & COUNTRY’s “God Only Knows” (2018). Amy Grant and Steven Curtis Chapman even make cameos in the film (as the camp counselor and lifeguard respectively).
