Greta Thunberg the Swedish climate activist has arrived in the United States following a two-week journey across the Atlantic Ocean. The 16-year-old arrived in New York on Wednesday to a crowd of supporters and global media. Greta has energized young supporters across the world to be vocal about climate change and speak up against politicians and others who they believe have failed to act.
Following the arrival on land, Greta Thunberg held the brief press conference.
“This is a fight across borders, across continents,” Thunberg said about her battle to persuade the world to take action quickly to reverse the climate crisis, “to save the Earth.”
“Everyone always asks me about Donald Trump,” Greta Thunberg said, “I say ‘Listen to the science’ and he obviously does not do that. If no-one has been able to convince him about the climate crisis and the urgency, why would I be able to?”.
Greta Thunberg said that while she was out at sea she heard about the fires raging in the Amazonian rainforest, principally in Brazil.
“Even on a boat, I heard about the fires in the Amazon, the rainforest. It’s devastating,” she said.
“It’s so horrible. It’s hard to imagine. The war against nature must end.”
