It’s not often we get to see a late-night host whose job it is to make us laugh get serious but in this candid conversation with Anderson Cooper, Stephen Colbert discusses grief with the CNN host. The conversation turned out to be a beautiful thing that everyone should watch.

The conversation touched on a variety of topics including death, faith, and grief. The discussion touched on Colbert losing his father and two of his brothers in a 1974 plane crash when he was 10 the same age Anderson Cooper was when his own father died of a heart attack. Cooper’s mother Gloria Vanderbilt died in June and they discuss the letter that he received from Colbert afterward.
