Hidden Gems in music: Prep School (Jesse Thomas)

NOTE: This article is 6 years old and may not include the most recent information.

It’s another month which means it’s time for another edition of Hidden Gems in music. April’s featured artist is the new side project from singer songwriter Jesse Thomas known as Prep school.

The Kentucky native is a singer songwriter with a soulful voice with just the right amount of grittiness. Jesse burst on to the music scene in 2010 when she released her debut the Hazle EP. It featured catchy songs like You I want and say Hello. Then in 2011 she released her second EP The Heartbreaker sessions that featured the songs Heartbreaker and Stay

In 2012 she released her very first full length album War Dancer which featured some of her best songs to date like Fire and sidewalk ends.  With each album Jesse’s success grew. In 2014 she came back even stronger with her sophomore album Burn the Boats that featured the hits Stunner, Loraine and leather jacket, and she continued to rise opening for the likes of  Andrea Gibson and playing the Burnbury music festival.

Jesse’s music has been featured on shows such as The Fosters and Heart of Dixie.  Her voice can even be heard on the video game Tony Hawk pro skater 5 Now it’s 2016 and Jesse Thomas is back with her new side project Prep school. The first release from this new project is a cover of Nirvana’s come as you are. Her rendition of the song is absolutely beautiful and haunting all at once.

The video for the cover staring Teela Cull and Jesse Sullivan can be seen here (Viewer discussion advised)

The cover is also featured on the game Quantem Break for the Xbox one.
As a longtime supporter and Friend of Jesse Thomas we are honored that feature her on our site. If you’re not a fan yet you will be by the time you’re done reading this article. Jesse’s talent is a dime of dozen and she really is something special. The sky is the limit for her, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
