Demi Lovato Performs At Hillary Clinton Event

THR – As the saying goes, some people favor the presidential candidates with whom they would most like to drink a beer. Demi Lovato, however, says she’s looking for confidence — which, being the theme of her latest album, explains why the singer came out in support of Hillary Clinton on Thursday when she told some 2,000 supporters in Iowa City, “I don’t think there’s a woman more confident than Hillary Clinton.”

After performing her hit song “Confident” at the rally, Lovato told the crowd she’s supporting the former Secretary of State for “her beliefs, her strength and the fact that she completely embodies the concept of women empowerment.” Clinton then took the stage to praise Lovato as “an extraordinary example for so many in the way that you have talked about issues that people find sometimes hard to talk about.”

“You’ve given hope and positive reinforcement to so many,” she said to the singer. “I’m thrilled you’re here, lending your voice and your example to our efforts to get people to get out and caucus.”

Polls show Clinton facing a tight race with Bernie Sanders heading into the Feb. 1 Iowa caucus. She’s been courting the millennial vote there by wrangling public endorsements from younger-appealing celebrities like Amy Schumer, Lena Dunham and Katy Perry. Artists like Lil B, Belinda Carlisle and Steve Earle have been stoking Sanders’ confidence in the race.
