MUST SEE: Children’s Choir Covers Katy Perry’s Inspirational Anthem ‘Rise’
One Voice Children’s Choir, under the direction of Masa Fukuda, performs “Rise” by Katy Perry.
In celebration of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games, One Voice Children’s Choir releases a cover of Katy Perry’s battle cry, “Rise.” Perry’s version of the song will be used by NBC Olympics’ production team during its programming of the games, including its coverage of the Aug. 5 Opening Ceremony.
One Voice Children’s Choir has close ties to the Olympic Games as its inception was at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Since then, the choir has received international notoriety for using music as a means to share their talents and deliver positive messages of unity, peace, faith, and hope. The choir recorded “Rise” as a celebration of their founding history.
Of the song, Perry has said, “now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite. I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be. I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together.
Katy Perry’s “Rise” has been called a “survival anthem.” It addresses the challenges of adversity, and the struggle to overcome great odds. Members of the choir found the song’s powerful message of coming together to love and support one another and rise from adversity extremely powerful and timely. Amid recording the song and filming the video, one of the choir members unexpectedly lost her father to a heart attack. In this difficult time, the choir had the opportunity to rally around her, and give her the support she needed. One Voice Children’s Choir dedicates their video of “Rise” to the memory of Alan Dean Andersen.
The Olympic Games give our global community a chance to come together in a common purpose – as One Voice. As representatives of the future generation, One Voice Children’s Choir’s rendition of “Rise” is a declaration of the hope and peace that come from many nations coming together, and is a loving tribute to the many athletes and nations participating in the Olympic Games.
One Voice Children’s Choir’s “Rise” was filmed at the Utah Museum of Natural History on the campus of the University of Utah. Thanks to Kenneth and Karen Card of White Dove Release Utah.

Nativity Scene Display On A Tennessee McDonald’s Window Has Gone Viral
SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WZTV) – Earlier this holiday season, many declared a “War on Christmas”when Starbucks opted for a red cup that displayed more “quietness” than Christmas. If you plan on visiting a McDonald’s location in Spring Hill, that won’t be the case.
A photo of the McDonald’s located at 5431 Main St. has gone viral because of the Nativity scene painted onto the storefront’s glass with the words “His name is Jesus” and “Rejoice” for all to see.
The photo was posted by Amy Basel on her Facebook page, stating “Drove by and did a double-take. Growing up in the mitten, you would NEVER see this. Tennessee McDonald’s…you made my day. ‘His name is Jesus.'”
WZTV spoke with Gina Wolfe the co-owner of the McDonald’s. She and her husband Tony own three Spring Hill locations, as well as locations in Columbia and Mt. Pleasant. While the scene is just now going viral, Wolfe says this is far from something new.
“It’s a family business which has been owned and operated by my family for 40 years. My dad started this 40 years ago when he had a local art student paint it on his store. My husband and I have been owners for 28 years and we’ve done this or something similar during Christmas each year. I guess with social media, it’s taken off,” Wolfe says.
Wolfe says the community has “embraced” their Christmas themes on the storefronts ever since it started: “We have so many people that tell us it really kicks off the season for them when they see it on our stores. We are so pleased people enjoy it.”
All stores have the Nativity scene on the front of the location each year. Paintings on the side of the restaurants will vary, usually consisting of characters such as Charlie Brown, “Frozen” icons, or any other favorites this time of year . The tradition has grown so large, they have had to hire people to paint them on their stores. Wolfe says she and her husband enjoy doing this and they are thankful to be living in the mid-state where people are so friendly.
“It’s just an amazing place to live no matter what part of town you choose. It’s all about the community,” she said.
