Kick ass star and soon to be star of the upcoming films the Fifth Wave and Neighbors 2 Chloë Grace Moretz is adding yet another project to her evergrowing list of roles as empowering female charcthers.
Variety is reporting that Moretz will potray the role of beloved Ariel in 2016’s live action version of the Little Mermaid. There is little information as to what version of the well known story we’ll see but what we do know is that Richard Curtis is in talks of being the writer. Also on board will be producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, with Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger will executive produce.
Exec VP of Production Erik Baiers and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for Universal.
Prior to this new found information Sofia Coppola was attached to the project but left due to creative differentces. Moretz was considered as a front runner for the role of Ariel from the very beginning and even after Coppola left universal still wanted her on the project but didn’t want to make the announcement official until a writer was named.

Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda Team Up for Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’
The film will include songs from the 1989 animated film (with lyrics by the late Howard Ashman), much of which was included in the 2008 Broadway musical adaptation. Deadline reports that Tony and Pulitzer winner Miranda will also co-write music with multiple Oscar winner Menken, whose prolific output has included Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame,
No filming schedule, casting or release date were announced. Deadline reports that Disney is still working out details of Miranda’s involvement in the project. Though he will not write the script, he reportedly will supervise the story.
